Home                                                                                                    BUNGY!!!

Before I left on the trip I checked out Bungy Jumping places by using the internet. It seemed that there were only 2 places in Australia that are operational at the moment. One in Perth and The A J Hacket one in Cairns. So there I was heading out to North Cairns to have a go. That tower was high!

I could feel my heart beat increase as I climbed the tower. When I got to the "jump zone" I could see that you wore a harness around your thighs and waist and have the main rope attached around your shins. When I was standing on the platform looking down it felt a little perilous. But I managed to put on a brave? face.

However, on 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 I leapt out.

It all happened so quickly the first thing I remember is the rope sort of taking up the slack when I was about 3/4 of the way down. I'd said I wanted to touch the water up to my elbows but they gave it a bit extra and I went in up to my neck.

Then you spring back and bounce up and down for a while and spin around and around that is a bit disconcerting. A crewman on a boat then comes out and you are lowered onto the boat, disconnected from the rope  and put ashore. (That's someone else hanging from the rope in the picture.)

There you are freed of all the other paraphernalia and that's it. You're a superhero!! At least in your own eyes anyway. I celebrated by having a VB while watching some others have a go. What a buzz. There is the initial adrenalin rush then it just settles in and you stay that way for a good couple of hours. Just to finish off here's the view as you "JUMP OFF THE EDGE". (and yes, that is me).

At least I'm not going to die wondering!
