About The Driver
I was born in Orroroo in South Australia's mid north in 1948 and spent my childhood enjoying all the freedoms of a country kid living on my parents wheat and wool farm, 30Km south of the town.
My first school called Bully Acre was a stone building in the middle of a paddock. It had 13 students and closed after my first year. I then went to Tarcowie, that had 31 students and then to Orroroo by school bus for a couple of years. We moved to Adelaide when I was 10 and I completed my schooling there.
I then worked for my father on a farm at Macclesfield in the Adelaide Hills for a couple of years before contracting wanderlust and joined the Air Force.
When I found that I couldn't fly Vampire jets on instruments I spent three months as a truck driver before joining the Army. I completed Officer training and ultimately ended up in the Royal Australian Armoured Corps.
I had a thoroughly enjoyable time in the Army and during that time got married and had four children. There were interesting postings to the UK, USA and Germany and most of the States of Australia. I finished my military career as the Senior Personnel and Logistics Officer for the 9th Brigade, located in Adelaide.
After two years running a café in Adelaide I joined the Supreme Court as a Tipstaff. My out of work activities involve working with the Operation Flinders Foundation (helping young offenders and youth at risk) www.operationflinders.org and anything to do with cars.
