Home UPDATE 23 OCTOBER
It was raining all morning on the day I was to leave for Brisbane. I had everything packed and ready to go and finally took the plunge, (almost literally), and left at 2 in the afternoon. It wasn't too bad but I had chosen to drive down to Bunya on the NW side of Brisbane via the hills route and in patches this was very foggy so I had to drive fairly slowly and this allowed the rain to come into the cockpit. I managed to miss one of the turnoffs and covered an extra 85 km or so.
The rain ceased as I got closer to Brisbane although the roads were still quite wet. I noticed the trailer doing a bit of a tango, swaying from side to side, so I slowed down a bit. I eventually made it safe and sound to an Robs, (an old army friend), place.
The next day we spent some time trying to fix the high idle to no avail. There was a fair bit of water on the floor of the car so I decided it was time to drill some holes in the floor with rubber grommets in them.
I went and visited the person who is hosting this website. I had a good chat with him about the site and how the allowable capacity was holding up. I'm very happy with the service I have received so if you are interested in setting up a website have a look at www.magicinfusion.com .
That night we went to the Gaythorne RSL Club to have dinner and see Russell Morris performing. I love these clubs! You can have a good meal, a few beers and watch some top notch entertainment for less than $50. Its a shame South Australia has nothing like them.
On the Saturday Rob and I went to the White Pointer fibreglass works where there is an informal clubbie get together each Saturday. There were a couple of clubbies there and a GT40.
I sat in the GT40 to see if I fitted. I think the foot and legroom would be OK but I would have to make some modifications to get sufficient headroom. I've always lusted after one of these and I confess I was a bit disappointed when I finally got to sit in one. I'll have to have another try in another one later on.
This is a homebuilt car that was driven down to Adelaide and back last year.
In the afternoon one of Rob's son's mates had a look at the high idle and managed to isolate the problem in about 2 minutes. It seems to be fixed now.
I caught up with another old army friend I hadn't seen in over 30 years for dinner. It was a pleasant reunion reliving a few old times. On the way home a fuse blew and all the interior instrument lights went out. A bit disconcerting!
The next day we went on a tour of the Redcliffe/Scarborough Beach areas to the North east of Brisbane. this is a really nice area and was pretty crowded because of the good weather. In the afternoon I took Rob's wife Jan for a drive in the car and she had a drive herself. That was the end of a pleasant relaxing time and it was time to pack up and move on again.
