Home                                                                                                        UPDATE 31 0CTOBER

It was time to head off south again. I dropped in to Elanora on the bottom end of the Gold Coast where one of our Clemente owners is living. Had a chat and lunch with him and brought each other up to date with our news. I meandered down to Murwillumbah for the night. The Caravan park was alongside a cane field and in the morning the remainder of the crop was cut.

During the night there was an almighty storm right on top of me. I thought the tent would get flattened or blow away with me in it. 38mm of rain was measured in the morning but the Park Manager reckoned that was only half of it as most of the rain was coming in horizontally. Everything managed to survive though.

I headed off south with the idea of stopping off overnight at Coffs harbour and looking in on the various beaches and seaside villages along the way. I had a look around Byron Bay. It seemed a nice place with a lot of alternative life style people around. The next town was Lennox Head. Just South was a lookout where I went Hang gliding. I have described that on a separate page.

Later in the afternoon I was caught in a storm and had to pull over and put the Tarp over the car and me for about  45 minutes until it had passed.

At Coffs Harbour that night there was a spectacular lightning display out to sea that didn't come any closer thank goodness. next day I checked out more beachside villages and stayed the night at Port Macquarie. It was then off to Singleton where I stayed with a classmate from my army training days. The last time we had seen each other was in December 1968. While I was there we visited an airfield where there was a Holden V6 engined Clubbie. This was very professionally built and looked like it would roll your eyes back in your head under acceleration. Unfortunately the owner wasn't there so I was unable to have a drive. There was also a hangar housing 5 fully restored Tiger Moths.

I then eaded off to Sprigwood in the Lower Blue Mountains  to stay with a friend from our clubman building days. Glenn has his Clemente registered in NSW and is a member of the Clubman Drivers Club of Australia that is mainly Sydney based.

On the Sunday we were going to attend the Historic Car races at Eastern Creek. Unfortunately it started raining through the night and continued solidly throughout the day, so we missed the racing. The next day I managed to dodge all but about 5km of rain on the way to Nowra. I went through Wollongong and Kiama that is a pretty little seaside town.

At Nowra I had just finished doing some updates to the website when it started raining again. I just made it back to my tent before it bucketed down for the best part of an hour.
